Two Texas A&M football players were suspended Monday from team activities after being charged with misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief.

The school said Deshazor Everett and Floyd Raven will remain suspended pending further investigation, though they can continue their studies.

College Station police said the players were charged after an April 7 fight at an apartment complex. Police said two people reported being attacked by a group that included Everett and Raven.

Police said they both had visible injuries from the attack, and a car was damaged.

Everett, a junior cornerback, had a late-game interception to seal the Aggies’ 29-24 upset win at top-ranked Alabama in November. Raven is a senior safety.

ACC stays at 15

The Atlantic Coast Conference is a 15-team league, and it might stay that way for a while.

After Commissioner John Swofford welcomed Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Notre Dame to the ACC at a news conference at the NASDAQ stock exchange in Manhattan, he said that further expansion isn’t on the agenda.

“It’s not a topic of conversation for us right now,” he said. “I would not anticipate it being in the future, but we’ll see.”

If the ACC decides to go to 17 members, Cincinnati and Connecticut would make geographic sense and fit in perfectly with what is shaping up to be the most formidable basketball conference in the country.

A&M license plates

For the first time, Texas A&M officials are making it possible for someone to have the phrase “12THMAN” on an official Texas license plate.

School officials, in conjunction with MyPlates.com, will hold an online auction for the opportunity to purchase a license plate with that phrase for an A&M supporter.

The auction will run from Aug. 12-Sept 12.

Visit myplates.com/12thman to participate. Proceeds will benefit Texas A&M and the General Revenue Fund of Texas.
