Shelby Ford’s double in the bottom of the eighth inning scored the go-ahead run and started a four-run rally as the Cats defeated the Alexandria Aces 9-3 Sunday at LaGrave Field.

Cats starter Aaron Wilkerson threw six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five, but was replaced by Stephen Nikonchik to start the seventh with the game tied 3-3.

Nikonchik threw three shutout innings, allowing only one hit, to get the win.

David Bergin had four RBIs for the Cats, who stole five bases and were caught twice.

Aces reliever Alex Schmarzo received the loss after he was charged with two runs while recording one out to start the seventh.

The Cats (24-13) have a four-game lead over second-place San Angelo and finished June with an 18-11 record.

The teams play tonight at LaGrave Field at 7:05.
