David Bergin hit a ninth-inning single to drive in Aljay Davis and James Giulietti threw two innings of scoreless relief to get the win as the Fort Worth Cats edged Rio Grande Valley 5-4 on Wednesday night at Harlingen Field.

Chris Ellison’s double in the first inning drove in leadoff hitter Cameron Monger to put the Cats up early.

After an error advanced him to third, Ellison scored to give the Cats a 2-0 lead.

But the WhiteWings scored in the second and again in the third to tie the game.

Back-to-back bases-loaded walks broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the sixth to give the Cats the lead. But for the second time in the game, Cats pitcher Eric Sheridan couldn’t hold the lead.

Sheridan, who began the game tied for most wins in the league (4), fanned four, walked four and gave up four runs on six hits over 5 2/3 innings before being relieved by T.J. Bozeman.
