FORT WORTH — A 27-year-old Fort Worth man faces a charge of cruelty to animals after police say he fatally kicked a woman’s 2-month-old puppy.According to a police report, Erick Nwankwo had been involved in a verbal disagreement with the puppy’s 23-year-old owner Wednesday morning in the office of the Sandy Oaks apartments in the 1500 block of Sandy Lane. After the disagreement, Nwankwo left the apartment complex office in a rage, saying “I got something for all of you all. It is going down today!” the report states.Nwankwo then spotted the woman’s puppy and kicked the dog twice in the air, according to the report. The owner tried to help the puppy but found it not moving nor breathing. The apartment manager initially told officers called to the scene that she did not know Nwankwo and that he did not live on the property.Officers, however, determined Nwankwo did live at the complex and learned from tenants that the man was going from apartment to apartment, trying to hide from officers. He was arrested after officers found him in one apartment, laying on the kitchen floor. He remained in the Mansfield jail Thursday with bail set at $1,500.Animal Control was called to the scene to dispose of the deceased puppy.
