Whoever slew the Allan Saxe Park playground dragon is being considered more of a villain than a fairy-tale hero.

Arlington police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the vandal or vandals who caused about $5,000 in damage last week by lopping the head off the popular playground attraction.

Scott DeGrant, Arlington’s south park district supervisor, said it could take months to replace the dragon’s head, which appears to have been cut off with an electric saw.

“It’s a real popular attraction. A lot of neighborhood kids use it,” DeGrant said. “It’s very frustrating because we try to provide a good service and we have a few vandals that try to spoil it for everyone.”

To help gather tips, the city released photos on its Facebook page of the smiling green dragon before the damage and of what it looks like now that the head is missing. Allan Saxe Park is at 3501 Curry Road in southwest Arlington.

“I believe someone took it home as a souvenir,” DeGrant said. “We are hoping with today’s social media that someone would recognize it.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Arlington Police Department at 817-274-4444.
