Why in this world would Bob Ray Sanders ask anyone to buy a fan for inmates? (See: “When summer arrives, Texas inmates suffer more,” June 3)

We have seniors who can’t afford their prescriptions, can’t pay their bills (including their electric bill), can’t afford their groceries, and he thinks we should worry about keeping inmates cool.

We have veterans who can’t afford proper medical care, we have families that are homeless because the breadwinner can’t find work, and he wants us to worry about keeping inmates cool.

Give me a break.

He can buy fans for inmates.

If you really want to help someone, help our seniors, help our veterans, help families who have lost their jobs and can’t support their families. They didn’t ask for the financial problem that confronts them.

Inmates deserve to be where they are and do not deserve any more than what is provided by the state.
