The Fort Worth Cats rallied to a one-run lead after trailing early by four, but couldn’t hold off the San Angelo Colts in a 7-5 loss Sunday night at LaGrave Field.

The Colts (8-8) took an early lead off Cats starter Eric Sheridan, who gave up three runs in the second and another in the third.

But the Cats (10-6) answered with a three-run third as Chris Ellison hit a two-run double and Kyle Pearson added an RBI single.

After scoring two unearned runs in the fourth, the Cats led 5-4 until Jordan Marks’ seventh-inning homer off Fort Worth Cats reliever Stephen Nikonchik tied the game.

Nikonchik threw three innings of relief, but surrendered three consecutive hits in the top of the ninth as the Colts took a 7-5 lead.

Ellison went 2 for 4 with a walk and four RBIs.

With the loss, the Cats split the home series with the Colts.

Next, the Cats travel to Alexandria, La., to take on the Alexandria Aces in the four-game series. The first game will take place Monday night at 7:05 p.m.

The Cats’ next home game will be Friday when they begin an eight-game series with the McAllen Thunder.
