GRAND PRAIRIE A 12-year-old boy remained hospitalized Sunday in critical condition and 13 other people suffered minor injuries after a boat wreck on Joe Pool Lake during the weekend.

Police said they did not believe alcohol contributed to the crash.

The boy was in surgery early Sunday at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. His name had not been released.

The wreck occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday about 200 yards offshore near Lynn Creek Park.

Two boats tied together were idle in the water when a third boat hit them, police said. The child was taken to shore and was later transported by helicopter ambulance to the Dallas hospital.

The other 13 people were treated at the scene and later released.

Two of the boats returned to a nearby marina, but a third boat was partially submerged after the wreck. Lake officers recovered that boat about 1:30 a.m. Sunday about 10 feet from shore.

Authorities continued to investigate.
