Don’t look for this super-exclusive, exotic Italian in the carpool line: Only 499 2014 LaFerraris — the first hybrid from the Prancing Horse’s House in Maranello, Italy — will ever be built. And even at $1.69 million a pop, they’re all spoken for.

Powered by both an 800-hp, 6.3-liter V-12 gas engine (redline: 9,250 rpm) and an electric motor that cranks out an additional 163 hp, the highly sculpted, aerodynamic LaFerrari is the highest-powered Ferrari production vehicle ever and thunders from 0 to 62 mph in under 3 seconds while boasting a top speed of 217 mph.

Four types of handmade carbon fiber keep the weight at around 2,800 pounds — 1,000 less than the company’s spectacular F12 Berlinetta — and contribute to the (also handmade) body and chassis. In true Formula 1 racing fashion, the driver’s seat is fixed but both the steering wheel and pedals adjust to the driver.

As is appropriate for a car packed with this much wonderfulness, the cabin is lined with the very best materials known to mankind, promising sumptuous surroundings.

The company’s marketing department also promises “absolute levels of performance, aerodynamic efficiency and handling without any form of compromise in any area.”

Only those fortunate 499 buyers (and their equally fortunate friends) will be able to say for sure. The rest of us will just have to dream.
