Fort Worth starter James Giulietti allowed only one run on six hits, and the Cats held off a late rally by Edinburg to beat the Roadrunners 6-4 on Monday night at Edinburg Stadium.

Giulietti went seven innings for the league-leading Cats (8-3), striking out three and walking one, to lower his season ERA to 2.87.

The Cats built their lead with two runs in the fourth and then one each in fifth and sixth. Edinburg starter Drew Coffey was done after the fourth inning, having allowed two runs on five hits.

Fort Worth added a couple of insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Aljay Davis drove in Chris Ellison with an eighth-inning single, and Alex Foltz scored Greg Bachman in the ninth with a sac bunt on which Foltz reached after an Edinburg error.

The extra pair of runs proved useful when Edinburg scored three in the bottom of the ninth off the Cats’ Boomer Potts before Hector Contin stopped the Roadrunners’ rally by getting the game’s last two outs.
