The city held its annual Let’s Move With the Mayor kickoff event May 29 at Bryant Elementary School.

The event included nearly 80 Bryant fifth-graders, and thousands more students joined through a live video broadcast. Students were given pedometers and tracking forms and challenged to walk 10,000 steps a day during the summer months. Prizes will be awarded in the fall.

Now in its fourth year of promoting health and fitness, this project is a partnership with the Arlington school district, John Peter Smith Hospital, Six Flags Over Texas and other sponsors. The program is part of a national Let’s Move campaign that has mayors throughout the U.S. working with their communities to adopt a holistic approach to fighting childhood obesity.
