And the audience award goes to....the Americans.

Several Cliburn audience members predicted American pianists would advance to the semi-finals which will be announced on Thursday evening.

Sara Daneshpour impressed Fort Worth resident Nat O’Day with her rendition a Prokofiev sonata.

“I’d vote for her for president,” O’Day said. “She was excellent.”

Ed Smootz, who drove up from Austin for Thursday’s performances, also enjoyed Daneshpour’s recital. “Her virtuosity compared to the other two competitors stood out.”

For South Carolina native Dorothy Rhett, Steven Lin is the complete concert pianist.

“He has the total package with his presentation and electricity and clarity in his playing,” Rhett said who is attending her fourth Cliburn competition. She also liked Lindsay Garritson‘s performance on Tuesday evening. “It’s not just about talent, it’s about personality,” she said.
