A driver was killed when his pickup truck collided with a Trinity Railway Express train just before 1 p.m. Thursday in Irving, a Dallas Area Rapid Transit spokesman said.

“There were no reports of injuries on the train, which had about 80 passengers at the time,” said Mark Ball of DART.

The truck had been traveling eastbound on Rock Island Road and turned north on Irby Lane, which crosses the TRE tracks.

The eastbound train’s operator said that the truck turned in front of him, Ball said.

“Everything is still under investigation,” he said.

Ball added that the driver of the truck was the only person in the vehicle and that initial indications are that both the train and the crossing signals were operating properly.

Shuttle buses were used to transport passengers affected by the crash, while the Dallas County Medical Examiner completed its investigation, Ball said.

Regular train service resumed about 3:45 p.m., Ball said.
