Larry Stegall had thought about taking down the large post oak in his front yard. On Tuesday night, the wind did it for him.

“We hadn’t planned on doing it today,” said Stegall, who bought the home on Chasemore Drive a month ago.

He didn’t realize that the tree had fallen until a reporter knocked on his door Wednesday morning. Stegall said he never heard anything.

“I think if it’s in the front yard, it doesn’t make a sound,” he said.

Gusts of wind of up to 51 mph were recorded in the Metroplex, said Jamie Gudmestad, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
