It’s the answer to the burning question on every competition insider’s lips: What is the first food item a competitor reaches for right after exiting the Hall stage?

So far, according to Kathie Cummins, the Cliburn’s backstage mom, it’s a dead heat between a handful of red grapes or a mini Hershey’s chocolate bar.

However, before the contestants take the stage, food is about the last thing on their mind. Instead, it’s all about the hand-warmer, a swig of water, maybe a quick sip of tea and an equally fast swipe of the brow with a dry towel. Then, it’s show time.
