It’s not just the competitors that need to practice the piano every day.

The Cliburn jurors also have a practice schedule to use the pianos in Bass Hall’s practice rooms.

“A lot of our jurors are performing pianists so they do like to practice,” said Maggie Estes, the Cliburn Foundation’s director of marketing.

The hall has 4 grand pianos and 3 upright pianos available for practice, she said. Two of the grands are reserved for competitors while the rest are available to jurors and guest artists.

On Monday, jurors Arie Vardi and Minoru Nojima spent time during the preliminary round practicing their craft. Almost all of the jurors are taking advantage of the practice rooms, Estes said.
