Weather plays havoc with playoffs

Rain wiped out many UIL softball and baseball playoff games in the area Friday, forcing teams to scramble for potential Saturday doubleheaders.

Most teams had played the opening game of their best-of-three series on Thursday, so the original Saturday pairings were for Game 3s only.

Flower Mound Marcus baseball led Southlake Carroll 2-1 in Game 2 when the game was stopped with Carroll’s Ryan Weigel on first and no outs in the top of the third inning.

Carroll leads the series 1-0.

Game 2 resumes at noon Saturday at Marcus. Game 3, if necessary, is to be played at a neutral field later that evening.

Coaches and administrators were in the process of locating a host field Friday night, with the possibilities of Prosper High School and Dallas Baptist University, Carroll coach Larry Hughes said.

If Marcus is unusable for Game 2, the game will be moved to an artificial turf neutral site.

The Frisco Liberty baseball team was batting in the first inning, with two outs and a runner on first of a scoreless game against Mansfield Legacy at Grapevine High School.

Liberty leads the series 1-0.

Game 2 is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Colleyville Heritage High School. A potential Game 3 would start 30 minutes after the completion of Game 2.

Martin-L.D. Bell

Game 2 of the Arlington Martin-Hurst L.D. Bell baseball series at Lupton Field never began Friday.

Saturday’s rescheduled Game 2 is at 6 p.m. at Lupton Stadium, with Game 3 to follow if needed.

Martin leads the series 1-0.
