Former Texas Rangers slugger Jose Canseco denied allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in Las Vegas.

Canseco, 48, commented on an ongoing police investigation before making his debut appearance with the Fort Worth Cats on Thursday night at LaGrave Field.

“I think you guys have to realize one thing — I don’t have to rape a woman,” Canseco said. “I think it’s ridiculous. We’re putting together polygraph examinations and trust in me, the truth will always come out.

“When I do these polygraphs, it’s almost laughable for an individual to say I raped them and drugged them at the same time. People who know me know I’m completely opposite. You guys don’t know me at all, but my close friends, ex-wives, my ex-girlfriends will testify on my behalf.

“Let’s wait for the truth.”

Las Vegas police told The Associated Press on Wednesday that no arrest was made and no charges were immediately filed.

Canseco, the 1988 American League Most Valuable Player and a six-time All-Star, hit 462 career home runs. He played three of his 17 seasons with the Rangers from 1992-94.

He is best known as being an admitted steroid user during his playing days, and writing a tell-all book, Juiced: Wild Times, Rampant ’Roids, Smash Hits & How Baseball Got Big.

In the book, Canseco names former Rangers teammates Juan Gonzalez, Ivan Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro as players who used performance-enhancing drugs.
