Tina and Ted Gorski are hosting pianist Luca Buratto from Italy for the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. They are sharing their experience with the Star-Telegram with a host family diary:

May 22, 2013: Gorski familia was dressed up and in high spirits for the Cliburn Opening Dinner and sooo anxious to finally find out when Luca will play.

He came to the gala with a list of his top five most desireable times tucked in his pocket. (The performers names were drawn from a silver chalice, and they were able to choose their performance time.)

Dessert plates were removed and the draw began. With fingers crossed and double crossed, Team Gorski nervously waited for Luca’s name to be called. Finally!! His name rang out, our table cheered and he hurried to select Number 8 ( number “4” on his wish list ).

Now, Friday night at 8:20 Luca will take the stage at Bass Hall.

Hmmm…. I’m feeling some good number “8” vibes! Luca arrived Sunday night around 8, selected number 8, is playing at 8:00.

Numero Otto…NUMERO FORTUNATO!!!
