No. 14464 yards Par 4Carl Pettersson came to No. 14 as the tournament’s early leader after making six birdies through the first 13 holes. But after an errant tee shot, Pettersson found himself in a clump of trees on the right. Pettersson was unable to escape the thicket after his first chip shot, but sent his third shot back onto the fairway 39 yards from the pin. He two-putted to make double bogey, dropping Pettersson to 4 under where he remained. “I tried to chip it out and didn’t get it out,” he said. “It was just one mistake after another.” Ryan Palmer, Thursday’s leader at 8 under, appeared to be in trouble after hitting his tee shot into the left bunker on 14. After he was hit the left side of the green from the sand, though, Palmer sank a 17-foot birdie putt. The birdie, Palmer’s first of the day, jump-started his round of 62. Overall, there were 20 birdies, 87 pars, and 27 bogeys on No. 14. Pettersson’s double bogey was the only one of the day.
