In a departure from usual practice, the newest member of the Weatherford ISD Board of Trustees was sworn in Friday at a specially-called meeting.

The item was not originally on the agenda but Dr. Joshua Tarbay had requested to be sworn in after the canvassing of the votes from the May 11 election took place. Tarbay was within his legal rights to request the move so everything was done to accommodate his request despite it not being placed on the agenda.

Tarbay is replacing Charlie Martinez after defeating him in the election. Martinez had been on the board since 2001 and most recently served as it president.

Re-elected incumbents Ashley Conlon and Gail Wirtanen were at the meeting but will be sworn in in June.

In other business, after a closed session, the board authorized Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Hanks to act on the district’s behalf in negotiating contracts for three tracts of land.

Also, action on a Level 3 grievance was tabled.
