ARLINGTON A woman trying to cross an Arlington street was hit and killed by a car Tuesday night, police said.

The victim was identified as Becky Breaux, 57, of Arlington, who died at a local hospital shortly after the incident, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office website on Wednesday.

The driver of the car stopped immediately after the incident and no charges are expected to be filed in the case.

The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1500 block of S. Collins St. between Tharp Street and E. Park Row Drive.

Witnesses told police that Breaux was attempting to cross the street where there was no crosswalk when the car which was northbound struck her.

The driver of the car who police say was a man in his 20s stopped and cooperated with police.

Investigators will attempt to determine where the victim had been coming from and why she attempted to get across the street where there was no crosswalk.

Police noted that pedestrians should always cross a street on marked crosswalks and should look both ways to ensure traffic is stopped or is stopping before crossing the street.
