Justin Northwest Texans

2012: 8-3, lost in Class 5A Division II Region I bi-district

Spring game: 6 p.m. Wednesday

The Texans are coming off one of their best seasons in school history and coach Bill Patterson said he’s noticed a difference this spring.

“The kids have a little pep in their step, a little confidence in our ability to win,” Patterson said. “Now, it’s a whole new season and you have to prove yourself every year but we’re excited about getting that chance again.”

Northwest is returning a group of experienced players on defense in Sam Jennings, Reggie McDaniel and Parker Kneis in the secondary, Jacob Parker at linebacker, Joe Gonzales at defensive tackle and have moved Duke Kicinski from defensive end to middle linebacker.

On offense, the Texans return a pair of linemen led by tackle Jacob Jennings, receivers Emmanuel Moore, Chase Morrison and Andrew Muldrow and running back Dennis Adrole.

Dusty Cloud and Jesse Drummer are auditioning to replace graduating quarterback Draze Lawliss.

“We feel like both of them are going to end up playing and we’re not anywhere close to naming a starter, but we’re definitely excited about those two guys.” Patterson said.

Next report: Arlington Lamar
