May 11 letter from Paul R. Schattman, I wonder where his “facts” came from to accuse the owners of the West Fertilizer and Feed Mill Co. of greed. (See: “West Folly”)

The Adairs are humble people. They were providing jobs in an area where there are few jobs other than farming. Many of the businesses in West are family-owned, as this was. It is my understanding that they took no money from the business for themselves.

Too many people who have little experience of building a business and the cost thereof stand in criticism of those who do. They assume that all business owners are wealthy and exploit their employees.

As the wife of a person who built a business from scratch, I know the toll it takes on all family members to make that business a success. I would hope that Schattman would check his facts before making a judgment of someone he does not know.
