Divers with the Arlington fire department recovered the body of a missing boater Sunday afternoon in Lake Arlington, authorities said.

The body was located about 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the area where witnesses told authorities that a man went into the water when his canoe capsized, fire officials said.

Family members made preliminary identification based on evidence at the scene. A positive identification is pending with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Fort Worth dive teams had been involved in the search since Saturday night because the man had launched his canoe at Eugene McCary Park in east Fort Worth.

Fort Worth police were called about 8:45 p.m. Saturday by a witness who said a man fell out of the canoe and went under water, according to police a dispatch.

Fort Worth and Arlington fire department dive teams searched until late Saturday using sonar and thermal imaging on the far west side of Lake Arlington.

The search was suspended about midnight and crews resumed about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
