College notes: TCU moves into fourth at NCAA golf regional

TCU shot a 3-under 285 and moved into fourth place following the second round of the NCAA Pullman Regional in Pullman, Wash., on Friday.

The Frogs, with a 561, are two shots ahead of Pacific and San Diego State, which are tied for the final qualifying spot. The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championships.

Daniel Jennevret led TCU with a 3-under 69. He is tied for 12th with a 5-under 139. He birdied three of the final four holes.

Pontus Gad shot an even-par 72 and is one shot behind Jennevret with a 4-under 140. He is tied for 16th place.

Paul Barjon and Julien Brun also shot par. Barjon is 25th with a 3-under 141. Brun is 29th with a 2-under 142.

California continues to lead the team standings with a 35-under 541.

UTA golf

Paul McConnell shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 17th with a 2-over 146 after the second round of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional in Fayetteville, Ark.

Three golfers are tied for first with a 4-under 140.

McConnell needs to finish among the top two individuals not associated with an advancing team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.

SWAC baseball

• Texas Southern 7, Alcorn State 4 (10): Marquis Curry had a two-run double in the 10th inning at LaGrave Field.

• Prairie View 11, Southern 3: Greg Salcido went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

NCAA softball

• Baylor 7, Arizona 0: Whitney Canion of Aldeo pitched a six-hitter and Holly Holl and Jordan Strickland each had two RBIs to power the Bears at the College Station Regional. The Bears play Texas A&M at 2 p.m. today.

• Texas 5, Army 0: Kim Bruins and Blaire Luna combined on a three-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Mandy Ogle hit a three-run home run for the Longhorns in the Austin Regional. Texas plays South Carolina at 11 a.m. today.

• Texas A&M 12, Penn 0: Mel Dumezich and Lauren Ainsley combined on a one-hitter and Cassie Tysarczyk had a home run and four RBIs in the College Station Regional.

Baylor track

A $13.6 million track and field stadium will be built along the Brazos River on the far east side of the 93-acre Baylor Stadium property, school officials said.

It is expected to open in 2015.
