Three times Tucker Nolen came to the plate for Cleburne, and three times he drove in runs as Cleburne beat Trophy Club Nelson 6-3 on Thursday night in the first game of their Class 4A regional quarterfinal series at Fort Worth Arlington Heights.

Sophomore Dylan Schneider went the distance for the Yellow Jackets (32-5), picking up his 14th win of the season against no defeats. Tyler Whitfield took the loss for Nelson (19-10), falling to 4-6.

Cleburne got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the first inning. Leadoff batter Nick Woodall was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Steven Martinez’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Tyler Fowler’s double. Nolen singled in Fowler and Quade Coward made it 3-0 with an RBI double.

Nelson stormed back in the top of the third. Chase Collins led off with a double and moved to third on Connor Bliss’ single. Tyler Frisby drove both home with a double, cutting the lead to 3-2. Ryan Romero then drew the Bobcats even with an RBI single.

Nelson proceeded to load the bases with two outs, but Schneider got Si Alford to hit into a fielder’s choice that ended the Bobcats’ threat.

Cleburne jumped back in front, though, in its half of the third. Martinez singled and Logan Runyon walked before Nolen came through again. His RBI double scored Martinez.

Schneider then shut down Nelson’s offense, retiring the last 12 batters he faced. He struck out three and walked none.

The Yellow Jackets added to their lead in the fifth. It was again Nolan doing the damage, driving home Fowler.

Cleburne added another run in the sixth. Tanner Mitchell replaced Whitfield on the mound and issued a walk. Woodall’s RBI triple to left-center made it 6-3.
