TCU men’s golf tied for 6th after first round of NCAA regionals

TCU shot a 12-under 276 and is tied for sixth place with Memphis following the first day of the NCAA Pullman Regional in Pullman, Wash., on Thursday.

Every Frogs golfer finished among the top 30, led by Pontus Gad, who is tied for 18th place with a 4-under 68. He birdied five of his final 14 holes.

Paul Barjon shot a 3-under 69 and is tied for 25th. Also at 3-under is Eli Cole, who eagled the 15th hole. Daniel Jennevret and Julien Brun were tied for 30th with a 2-under 70.

Each team that finishes in the top five will advance to the NCAA Championships.

TCU and Memphis trail Pacific by two shots.

California leads with a 23-under 265.

UTA men’s golf

Paul McConnell of UT Arlington is 2-over par following the first day of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.

McConnell shot a 74 and is tied for 25th.

The Mavericks golfer needs to finish among the top two individuals not associated with an advancing team to qualify for the NCAA Championship.

SWAC baseball

Stephen Curtis knocked in three runs and Brandon Gregory pitched a three-hitter, sending Jackson State to an 11-1 victory over Alcorn at the SWAC tournament at LaGrave Field.

• Southern 7, Alabama A&M 1: Jesse Holiday pitched a four-hitter with eight strikeouts.

• Texas Southern 6, Arkansas Pine Bluff 5: TSU scored five runs in the fourth inning, climaxed by a two-run double by Jerry Ford II.

• Prairie View 6, Alabama A&M 4: Brett Valley and Brad Benes each had two RBIs for Prairie View.
