FORT WORTH — A motorcyclist escorting a funeral motorcade received fatal injuries Saturday when he collided with a car, Forest Hill police said. The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in the 3300 block of Mansfield Highway on the border of Fort Worth and Forest Hill. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the contract motorcyclist as James Wiggs, 58, of North Richland Hills.Kriss Boardingham said she and another passer-by performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Wiggs while several people from the funeral motorcade emerged from their vehicles to pray.“I felt no pulse; he wasn’t breathing,” said Boardingham, who operates a consignment store across from the scene, Forest Hill Indoor Outdoor Market. “So a lady started doing compressions.”Boardingham said that after three rounds of chest compressions, she felt a light pulse and his eyes opened, Then emergency crews arrived. Wiggs was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.Meanwhile, the motorist who collided with the motorcycle escort walked a few steps from his car before he himself collapsed.“I ran over to him and asked if he was OK,” Boardingham said. “He told me, ‘I didn’t see anybody coming, I don’t know what happened.’”The man and his passenger were taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital with minor injuries. An initial investigation by Forest Hill police found that Wiggs was traveling southeast on Mansfield Highway when he struck the vehicle, which was not in the funeral party.“I heard the slam and looked up and saw him — he was airborne,” said the Rev. V.R. Reed, assistant pastor at New St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, who was another passerby to offer assistance.“As he hit the ground I ran toward in the street, he was laying there on his back. I put my hand on his foot and said a prayer,” Reed said.
