TCU assistant coach Mark Tjia and senior Orlando Superlano were honored with regional awards Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association after their run to the NCAA Tournament.

Superlano, a senior from Venezuela, received the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award from the Texas Region in recognition of his outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as his scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Tjia was named the ITA Texas Regional Assistant Coach of the Year after helping to lead the Horned Frogs to their best season since 2008 with an 18-10 record and top-35 national ranking.

Baylor’s Rose leaves

Baylor guard L.J. Rose, a freshman on last season’s men’s basketball team that won the NIT championship, will transfer to another school, Bears coach Scott Drew announced. Rose averaged 0.9 points and 1.2 assists per game last season. Rose did not announce a future destination. Rose’s departure leaves Baylor with six returning lettermen from last season’s 23-14 team, plus a five-member signing class.
