Jesus and guns

I was greatly impressed by Wedgwood Baptist Church Pastor Al Meredith's comments in the Star-Telegram on May 3. They were courageous and also well-thought out. (See: “Church members are praising God, packing heat”)

Jesus himself was a pacifist. He would not even call for the use of arms to save himself from death — he told Peter to put away his sword. He refused to call on his father, God, to send the armed forces of heaven to protect him.

I believe he would have urged his followers to remember that gun possession involves the need for the maximum in training. And the gun owner must use the utmost care not to use firearms unless in complete control of his emotions.
