GRAND PRAIRIE – Weatherford College and Frank Phillips College exchanged the lead five times at the Region V Tournament Sunday, but WC ended up on top with a 7-5 win.

The Coyotes pulled out the win thanks to a strong eighth inning. WC went up for good on an RBI single by Erik Garcia, plating Trooper Reynolds.

WC would not relinquish the lead as Frank Phillips was unable to weather a four-run ninth inning deficit.

Hunter Lockwood had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth and eighth innings.

Justin Garcia got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over seven innings. He struck out five, walked three and surrendered five hits.

Weatherford was sparked by Reynolds and Lockwood, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.

In the top of the third, the Coyotes grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Trevor Simms started the rally for Weatherford with a single. A groundout by Shane Crawford then moved Simms from first to second. Cody Semler singled, scoring Simms.

Frank Phillips brought home two runs in the fifth inning, and matched that run total in the ninth.

WC didn't give up the lead after the eighth inning. Additional runs came from an RBI double by Lockwood and an RBI single by Paxton Delagarza.

The Coyotes tacked on another three runs in the ninth. Reynolds' triple got things going, bringing home Colton Hall and Walker Dailey.

WC played in another elimination game Monday afternoon at Quik Trip Park against New Mexico Junior College and lost 4-1. WC finishes the season 33-25 overall with its fourth straight trip to the postseason.
