WCS players receive honors

On Apr. 17, players from the Weatherford Christian School basketball teams were recognized with district and state honors.

From the varsity girls, junior Megan Kiszka received 1st team all-district and 1st team all-state honors. Junior Lauren Aaron and senior Chelsea Cook earned 1st team all district and 2nd team all-state honors. Junior Ashleigh Garvin was named 2nd team all-district.

“I am proud of the girls being recognized,” said Coach Debby Steensma.

For the varsity boys, freshman Austin Wheeling, sophomore Abraham Hernandez, and senior Jake Bomar each earned 2nd team all-district honors. Sophomore Peyton Modesitt and junior Patrick Binzer received district honorable mention honors.

“I am proud of these boys’ accomplishments,” said Coach Alan Weaver. “Though Patrick did not finish the season due to an injury, it is an honor to be recognized. It shows a lot of respect from the others coaches.”

WCS track gives strong showing at state

On Apr. 23, the WCS track team competed in the state tournament at Springtown High School . The varsity girls finished 4th overall and the varsity boys placed 5th overall.

Chelsea Cook- 1st 100 Meter Hurdles, 5th Long Jump, and 5th Shot Put; Kennedy Combs- 5th Discus Throw and 5th 100 Meter Dash; Kaitlyn Fell- 2nd 100 Meter Hurdles and 7th Long Jump; Hannah Burks- 3rd 1600 Meter Run and 5th 800 Meter Run; 4 x 100 Meter Relay- 3rd Angela Adhikari, Kaitlyn Fell, Hannah Floyd, Alexys Johnson; 4 x 200 Meter Relay- 3rd Angela Adhikari, Chelsea Cook, Kennedy Combs, Alexys Johnson; 4 x 400 Meter Relay- 3rd Angela Adhikari, Kaitlyn Fell, Hannah Floyd, Alexys Johnson.

Varsity Boys

Jake Bomar- 2nd 200 Meter Dash and 4th 100 Meter Dash; Austin Fuller- 1st Long Jump and 3rd 200 Meter Dash; James Williams- 7th Discus Throw; Jerry Weaver- 6th Shot Put; Cooper Bomar- 5th 400 Meter Dash; Harley Jacques- 7th 400 Meter Dash; 4 x 400 Meter Relay- 3rd Jake Bomar, Austin Fuller, Cooper Bomar, Harley Jacques.
