A 5-year-old boy who was shot in the head at a Denton home Saturday morning died Monday afternoon in a Dallas hospital, police said.

He was pronounced dead at 12:05 p.m. Monday at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, police said in a news release.

He was identified as Jason Haley by the Dallas County medical examiner’s office.

Denton police officer Orlando Hinojosa said that no charges had been filed Monday but that the investigation continued.

Jason and another boy, 8, were alone in a bedroom when the older boy found a .22-caliber rifle, pointed it and fired, police said.

Officers went to the home in the 2700 block of Stockton Street about 11:40 a.m. Saturday

Jason was initially taken to Denton Regional Medical Center before being flown to the Dallas hospital.

His grandparents and a teenager were in the residence at the time, but his parents were at work, police said.
