A 5-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the head at a Denton home Saturday morning, police said.

The victim and another boy, 8, were alone in a bedroom when the older boy found a .22-caliber rifle, pointed it and accidentally fired, Denton police said in a news release.

Officers responded to the home in the 2700 block of Stockton Street about 11:40 a.m.

The 5-year-old was initially taken to Denton Regional Medical Center before being flown by helicopter ambulance to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. His condition was not immediately known.

Two adults and a teenager were also home at the time of the shooting, police said.
