A two-vehicle wreck on Camp Bowie West Boulevard Wednesday afternoon sent three people to area hospitals, including a man with head trauma, authorities said.

The wreck was reported at 2:24 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the 8300 block of Camp Bowie West about a half-mile east of the Las Vegas Trail intersection.

A Kia was turning when it was hit in the side by an SUV, officer Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman, said.

The SUV driver was alone; the Kia was driven by a woman and had a male passenger.

The passenger in the car was badly hurt, Neal said.

“The passenger is believed to have suffered head trauma,” she said. He “had to be pried from the vehicle.”

The drivers were conscious as they were taken to hospitals, she said.

“The driver of the SUV is believed to have been driving at an excessive rate of speed,” Neal said.

Investigators believe he didn’t see the car “until it was too late,” she said.

Three ambulances responded, said Matt Zavadsky, MedStar spokesman.

No other information was available early Wednesday evening.
