Water sprays, a water spinner, interactive dumping buckets, ground geyser sprays and water cannons are among 11 play elements to be included in a new splash pad at The Keller Pointe.

Last month, City Council approved a $346,441 bid for construction of the splash pad from Sunbelt Pools of Dallas, a company that has created aquatic projects in North Richland Hills, Plano, Richardson, Mesquite, Dallas and Lewisville.

In January, City Council approved a design and engineering contract with Mesa Design Group of Dallas.

Purchasing the equipment in advance of awarding the construction bid was a cost-saving measure that also expedited the schedule so the new play area could be open for the 2013 swim season, said Dona Roth Kinney, director of parks and recreation.

The splash pad will be highly visible, located at the front of the facility adjacent to Rufe Snow Drive.

Elements used will be stainless steel structures with a translucent material that reflects water and light, creating a colorful play environment that can also serve as an artistic display during during off-season.

"There are a lot of kids in Keller and a lot of families that will enjoy this added attraction," Mayor pro tem Tom Cawthra said. "And this is going to look great from the road. It’s going to have color, it’s going to have eye-popping design and it’s going to have a lot of activity."

Kinney said target opening date for the splash pad is June 22.
