2012: 7-5, lost in Class 5A Division I Region I area round
Spring game: May 23, Newsom Stadium
The Tigers must replace a very large and accomplished senior class and perhaps no unit was hit harder by graduation than offensive line.
Mansfield likes to line up in an I formation and overpower opponents with a large offensive line, but must replace four starters from a season ago.
Among those lost are Zac Crabtree, who signed with Oklahoma State, Austin Davis, a Duke signee and tight end Trent Gow, whos headed to Air Force.
"We have some young guys who will step up and do a good job, led by returning starter Hunter Ponder," Mansfield coach Jeff Hulme said. "I realize that were not going to have the big 6-7 guys like Crabtree or the 300-pound guys like Austin Davis, but theyll get it done."
Running back Julius Lewis, who rushed for 1,170 yards, 12 touchdowns and averaged over eight yards per carry last season, should help the transition.
The Tigers have almost as many spots to fill defensively with the departure of players such as leading tackler Chad Whitener, who signed with California, and ball hawking safety George Baltimore, a TCU signee.
