Nelson sends two athletes to state track meet

The Byron Nelson girls track team is sending two athletes to the state meet this season.

Leilyn Miles, a freshman, advanced in the shot put, and distance runner Rana Ryan, a senior, will be competing in the 800 event.

The state meet will be held on May 10-11 in Austin.

Nelson softball sails through second round

The Byron Nelson softball team coasted to a series victory over Burleson in the area round of the playoffs at the end of last week, winning two straight games to advance to the regional quarterfinals.

Ashley Dumoulin got the win in games 1 and 2 for the Lady Bobcats as Nelson defeated the Lady Elks by scores of 7-6 in both contests.

Dumoulin and Ashley Silva both tripled in the second game for Nelson.

The Lady Bobcats will play the winner of the Birdville/Joshua series in the next round at a time and date to be determined.

Athletics registration available online

Athletics registration for the 2013-2014 school year is now available on the Keller ISD web site at to middle and high school students.

According to the site, “parents and legal guardians of all Keller ISD student athletes entering grades 7-12 are required to fill out and submit the required UIL and District forms prior to the 2013-14 school year in order to participate in his or her school's athletic program.”

Casey's Kids Fun Run set for May 11

The annual Casey's Kids 5K Fun Run will take place on May 11 at the KISD Natatorium, the proceeds from which go to needs KISD students.

According to the district web site,, “The event began as an idea by long-time KISD counselor Janie Casey who wanted to create a way for families to support each other by providing monetary donations toward purchasing necessities for KISD students in need, all while providing an outlet for enjoyment, exercise, and socialization.”

The Fun Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. and information on how to register for the event can be found on the district web site.
