Euless Trinity Trojans

2012: Finished 10-3, lost in Class 5A Division I Region I semifinal

Spring game: May 21

The Trojans graduated one of the top defensive lines in school history led by Sam Tevi and Gaius Vaenuku, three-year starters who both signed with Utah, and are looking for fresh blood to fill the void. The Trojans do return key starters at the second and third levels such as linebacker Inoke Ngalo and defensive back George Moeakiola, which should soften the blow.

"Our depth might be effected, we’ll just be looking for younger boys to have the opportunity for playing time now and they just have to grow up," Trinity coach Steve Lineweaver said. "As Gary Patterson said, ‘We got to grow some up in a hurry."

Offensively, the Trojans return several running backs such as Kenneth Gonzales and Homer Babcock who are sure to churn out thousands of yards behind another massive offensive line, but Trinity is searching for a replacement for graduating quarterback Matt Hawkins. Lineweaver said it’s a three-way battle between 2012 backup Christian Hammack, To’a Maumau and Deion Guignard.

"I don’t know if going in to August with three quarterbacks is ideal but if we have to we will," Lineweaver said. "We have designed every practice to the minute, all the 18 practices, with finding the quarterback in mind. I have no idea who will come out with it and they might all three be the same, and if they are we’ll just go into August with those three and see who improved over the summer."
