KELLER — Keller Fossil Ridge routed Arlington Bowie 14-0 in five innings Friday to advance out of the bi-district round of the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and first time since making the jump to Class 5A in 2009.
The Panthers (26-6), who took Game 1, 6-4 in eight innings Thursday night, will face either El Paso Montwood or Amarillo Tascosa next week in the Class 5A Region I area round.
“We’re glad to get out of the series in two games, relax a little bit and get ready for the next round,” Fossil Ridge coach Doug Dulany said.
Kenniel Rivera nailed a leadoff homer, added an RBI triple and scored three runs to lead the offense, which scored 14 runs on just five hits. Austin Ingraham added an RBI triple to drive in Christian Hollie, which started a six-run second inning for the Panthers.
Fossil Ridge took advantage of a forgettable night for Bowie (20-13), who walked nine batters and committed four errors.
Panthers senior pitcher Hayden Hibler struck out seven, gave up two hits and walked two more in five scoreless innings on the mound.
“I threw it over the plate for them to hit but they kept missing it, everything worked for us tonight and it was a good win,” Hibler said. “Last year, losing in the first round was awful, so winning the first two games was awesome. I’m looking forward to the second round.”
Singles by seniors Jonathan Santiago and Quintin Rohrbaugh were the only bright spots for the Volunteers, who moved to 0-8 all-time in the playoffs since 1991.
