2012: Finished 12-2, lost in Class 5A Region I final
Spring game: May 23, Dragon Stadium
The Dragons know it won’t be easy replacing 2012 Class 5A Player of the Year, Kenny Hill, who signed with Texas A&M, but Carroll always seems to field one of the top signal callers in the area.
“You hate to lose a Kenny Hill but I don’t see anybody around the district or the state too concerned about us, we don’t have time to run a pitty party,” Carroll coach Hal Wasson said. “We’ve been blessed to have some great ones. We don’t compare anyone to the other but I know the next guy will step up and do good.”
The top two candidates competing this spring to be the next Carroll quarterback are Ryan Agnew, who received over 200 snaps last year, and Garrett Hale. Agnew was last seen ripping off a 32-yard run against DeSoto in the regional final against DeSoto after Hill’s helmet was knocked off and he had to sit out a play.
“It’s going to be an important spring for him and it’s a very important spring for the offensive line,” Wasson said.
Whoever wins the job will get to distribute the ball to a group of six receivers who Wasson said they are “very excited about,” and a two-year starter at running back in AJ Ezzard.
Carroll also returns the majority of its defense, though it must replace Tanner Jacobson in the secondary, and one of the top kickers in the area in Drew Brown.
