Shortly before noon Tuesday students and faculty members at Weatherford High School (WHS) were given clearance to enter the school’s gymnasium area after being evacuated from the building following the discovery of a threatening letter.

Administrators became aware of the letter when it was found by a student. As a result both students and staff members were evacuated from the building as a precautionary measure to a nearby practice field while the police department conducted a search of the building.

According to the district’s website the decision was made in keeping with the district’s safety protocol, students were placed in a modified lock-down mode until the alleged threat was investigated.

Weatherford Police and Fire Departments worked together with the WISD administrative team to make sure there was no true threat to the students and staff.

Students then returned to second period to collect their belongings before moving to their fourth period class. The schedule was modified to include lunch periods for all students.

Information contained within the letter has not been released. No arrest have been made at this time.
