My daughter and son-in-law live close to West, and my two grandchildren attend West schools, so I have firsthand reports of the damage, grief and disruption of life on April 17.

The surrounding communities and the great state of Texas have wasted no time in pulling themselves up by the bootstraps to get life back on track.

They have not whined and waited on the inefficient, wasteful, totally dysfunctional Washington career bureaucrats and politicians (of both parties) to dole out federal aid. People from all over have rushed to help.

Thanks to Willie Nelson for dedicating his birthday party at Abbott to the first responders and people of West.

Thanks to the Grand Prairie school district and many others for an outpouring of love, prayers, donations and physical help. And a big thank-you to the comfort dogs: Samuel, Rachel, Moses and Lila.

Maybe the Washington “party” should have attended Willie’s 80th birthday party to see how things are done in Texas.
