Police extended their search Tuesday to El Paso for a missing 14-year-old middle school student who left Tarrant County with a man who police say is dangerous.

Ruby Contreras, 14, a student at North Oaks Middle School, was last seen April 24 at the school. She never returned to her North Richland Hills home, and an Amber Alert was issued.

Police believe that Contreras left Tarrant County with 26-year-old Stephan Andrew Cox.

“Stephan Cox is a dangerous person and Ruby is not safe in his custody,” North Richland Hills investigator Keith Bauman said Tuesday.

After the teen did not come home, police conducted searches and canvassed neighborhoods to find her.

Based on information from the investigation, Cox and Contreras may have bought a bus ticket and traveled west. Witnesses in El Paso have told authorities that they were seen in the area in the last few days.

Bauman said Cox poses a threat to the teen, but he provided no other information.

Contreras is described as about 4 feet ll inches tall, about 95 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket and blue jeans. Cox is about 5 feet 5 inches and about 130 pounds.

The case is being investigated by North Richland Hills and Haltom City police.

Anyone with information should call local police agencies.
