After flying to Seattle, busing to Huntsville, coming home for an afternoon game and flying to Las Cruces, N.M., during the past 10 days, a weary UT Arlington baseball team rallied from an early deficit Sunday to finish off a 4-4 road trip.

Finally home, the Mavericks open their final homestand of the season at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when they host Baylor at Clay Gould Ballpark.

The Bears handed UTA its first run-rule loss of the season when they put together 14 runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to win 14-4 three weeks ago in Waco. The Bears are coming off a three-game sweep of Texas.

UTA hasn’t had much success in midweek games this season, going just 3-7. The Mavericks are hitting .286 and scoring 5.3 runs per game, powered primarily by Matt Shortall, who is hitting .375, the second-best mark in the WAC.

UTA received big days at the plate from Ryan Walker, Darien McLemore and Travis Sibley, who all had four hits in Sunday’s series-deciding win over New Mexico State.

The exhausting 10-day stretch saw the Mavericks briefly dip into second place in the Western Athletic Conference.
