Keller’s Luke Young won the Region I shot put to qualify for the UIL state tournament in Austin on May 10-11.Other top finishers by Keller ISD athletes include Fossil Ridge’s Mia Pollard, who finished third in the 100m and fifth in the 200m, while Central’s Alexandra Peters was third in the 400m and Keller’s Jake McConnell was third in the 800m.Timber Creek’s Jacob Zalesky was fourth in pole vault.Only the top two finishers from each regional meet advance to the state competition.It was a bit disappointing for Pollard, who had won both 100 and 200m events at the area meet last weekend. Her area finals time of 11.91 would have put her in Austin, but she turned in a 12.08 at the regional in Lubbock.Peters had also been the champion of the area meet’s 400m and long jump.Keller JV takes lacrosse district championshipThe Keller JV girls finished the season on a 13-game winning streak en route to a 15-3 season record and capture the district championship.Three players from the squad were named to Team Texas and will travel to Pennsylvania in May to represent the state in the U.S. Lacrosse National Tournament. Katie Sylvester, Ryan Licalsi, Lauren Skalniak will travel to the national tournament over the Memorial Day weekend at Lehigh University.The team has been in existence since 2009.“Last year, we were 2-16,” said Nettie Marshall, a Keller assistant coach. “The girls persevered throughout the season and never lost their passion or love of the game.”Team captains for this year were senior Megan Forrest and juniors Emily Brittain and Hannah Cullis.The 7/8 Keller team was playing in the North Texas Youth Lacrosse League’s district championship over the weekend against Southlake.Bet on the Northwest wrestlersA team fundraiser for the Northwest wrestling team and the Little Texan Wrestling Program is set for May 10.The Casino Night is an adults-only event to be held at the DFW Marriott Hotel and Golf Club.The event will raise funds to help both programs with travel expenses during summer competitions and the pre-season nationals and out-of-state competitions.Tickets are $65 and includes heavy appetizers and casino chips which will be used to buy drawing prizes and auction items.To register online, go to www.bswarms.com/swarm188.Keller ISD athletics mandatory registration is now onlineParents and legal guardians of all Keller ISD student athletes entering grades 7-12 are required to fill out and submit the required UIL and District forms prior to the 2013-2014 school year in order to participate in athletic programs, according to the Keller ISD website.This year's forms will be online. Forms are available on the site by visiting the Athletics page via the main website at www.kellerisd.net.All necessary forms can be completed via the online registration process except for the annual physical and medical history. Parents can print the physical and medical history form during the online registration. The physical and medical history must be completed by a parent and a physician. It must also be dated after January 1, 2013 and be returned to the campus the student athlete attended for the 2012-2013 school year. The KISD Athletics Department also recommends that parents keep a copy of the physical for their own files.
