A man opened fire during a domestic dispute at a family gathering Sunday night, wounding his ex-wife and another man, police said Monday.

Patrol officers arrested the man a few minutes later as he walked along Harwood Road after witnesses described the shooter.

The suspect was identified as Lenar Corales, 32, of Hurst, who remained in the Hurst Jail on Monday. He is expected to be charged with attempted capital murder, Assistant Police Chief Steve Niekamp said.

The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 700 block of Thousand Oaks Drive.

Witnesses told police that a man walked up to a residence on Thousand Oaks Drive and fired several rounds, wounding his 33-year-old ex-wife and a 35-year-old man. The victims, described as seriously wounded, were taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and remained there Monday.

“There was some type of family gathering there,” police Sgt. Craig Teague said. “She and the other victim were outside with others, but he [the suspect] wasn’t supposed to be there. He had targets in mind when he fired.”

After the shooting, the gunman fled.

Police took Corales into custody, but he was not carrying a weapon.

Authorities found a handgun in a front yard a few blocks from the shooting, police said. They were trying to determine whether it was used in the shooting.
