Former Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson revealed to his team during the 2011 NBA playoffs that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, according to his upcoming book, Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success, the Orange County Register reported Sunday.

The Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the eventual NBA champion Dallas Mavericks.

Jackson was diagnosed in March of that year but delayed surgery until the Lakers’ elimination in May.

Until now, Jackson kept his diagnosis publicly concealed.

That May, with the Lakers struggling against Dallas, Jackson “sensed the team was lacking something” when he revealed the news in a video session after consulting with captains Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher.

Jackson retired after that season. He’s now rumored to have interest in returning to work for an NBA front office, or coaching again.

•  Rockets: Point guard Jeremy Lin (bruised chest muscle) is questionable for Monday’s Game 4 against Oklahoma City. Down 3-0, Houston faces elimination.

• Spurs: Center Tiago Splitter (sprained ankle) missed Sunday’s game at the Lakers and is out indefinitely. Forward Boris Diaw (back) practiced this weekend.
