One pedestrian was killed and another injured as they attempted to cross East Pioneer Parkway and were hit by a vehicle late Saturday, Arlington police said in a news release.

The men were crossing the street northbound in the 1900 block of East Pioneer Parkway about 10:45 p.m. when they were hit in the middle lane just east of New York Avenue, the news release said.

One man died at the scene, and the other was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, the release said. Their identities weren't immediately known.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, talked to police and is not expected to face charges, police said. It wasn't immediately clear if other vehicles were involved.

The eastbound lanes of East Pioneer Parkway were closed for about an hour-and-a-half, police said.
